Being money savvy and gurus in personal finance, we’re always looking for ways to earn money online. One of our favorite ways, by far, is earning money taking surveys while we watch TV.

Survey Junkie makes it easy for people who don’t have much time on their hands to earn some extra cash while they can.

In our Survey Junkie review, we’ll answer all the questions you might have, such as:

What is Survey Junkie (SJ)?
Who can join SJ?
How does SJ work?
Pros vs. Cons of SJ?
How does SJ pay you?
Is SJ legit?

And, of course, we will share our own experiences with online surveys and screenshots along the way.

What Is Survey Junkie?

You may be wondering what is Survey Junkie?

Maybe you’ve heard about them as a way to make money on the side, and we want to share how to do so with you!

Survey Junkie is a site where you can answer questions and get paid for doing so. The reason for this is that there are companies that need to do market research.

An easy way for these companies to do their research is to have their target demographics answer their questions on a survey site. This is where SJ comes in!

They’re a paid survey site with an online community that provides information to the market research industry.

Right on their website, it states, “We open the window of communication between you and the brands you love.”

This way, the online surveys you take are actually going to make an impact on products and services down the road!

The best part is you can be a part of it and get paid!

Survey Junkie’s only available to the United States, Canada, and Australia at the time of writing, and there are over 20 million Survey Junkie users.

The main reason they are limited to these countries is so they can provide accurate information to the companies they partner with. A majority of the companies they work with are located in those countries.

Is Survey Junkie Legit?

Yes! Survey Junkie has been in business since 2013 and has over 3 million members.

They are extremely transparent in everything they do. They don’t ask for credit card info, which is the #1 sign that you’re heading into scam territory!

We have yet to come across any of our readers that had a bad experience with Survey Junkie.

Here is a screenshot of the most recent testimonials on the SJ site:

Survey Junkie’s a real and legitimate way to get paid; definitely not a scam!

We’ve been users since the beginning, and it has been one of my go-to’s for quick money ever since we heard about it.

But, for a little more information, let’s talk about how others rate it besides Kelan and me:

Trustpilot – 4.3/5 stars, with 67% of users ranking it 5 stars
BBB (Better Business Bureau) – 4.3/5 stars, with a B accreditation

Of course, the site may not be to everyone’s liking or pay out hundreds a day like we’d all want; but overall, people are happy using Survey Junkie and aren’t being scammed by them.

How Survey Junkie Works

To join Survey Junkie and earn real money taking surveys, we broke it down into three simple steps:

Create an account and complete your profile to get matched with surveys
Complete surveys anywhere, anytime, and on any device
Earn points quickly and redeem them instantly for cash via PayPal, bank transfer, or gift cards

It’s really that simple! But let’s dive a little deeper into how Survey Junkie is able to pay users (like you and me) by simply having us answer a few questions.

Just like other survey sites, SJ is a market research company that pays users for information. They get paid by companies and brands to gather information on certain types of customers.

The value these companies get from research is enormous! They are able to better create, market, and sell their products and services.

The reason it works so well is that they break customers into categories. Putting similar customers in the same categories reduces the variables and increases the information they can gather.

When you sign up for Survey Junkie you will be asked for personal information. This is done so they can match you with the most related surveys.

Most Survey Junkie users answer questions about:

Key demographics
How much shopping you do
Relationship status
How many children do you have
Average household income
Pet ownership

Step #1: Signing Up For SJ Opinion

When I signed up, I used my Facebook profile and had my account set up within a matter of seconds.

After answering a few more questions (like I mentioned above), I had already earned my first 50 points in no time flat.

I continued to confirm my email and take a quick tour of the dashboard and already earned over $1 in what seemed like less than 3 minutes of time.

The dashboard is beautiful, clean, and super organized so you know exactly what everything means.

Step #2: Start Taking Paid Surveys

Obviously, this is one of the best benefits of doing online surveys. You get the freedom to complete on your own time, with no obligations, and you earn points and money on your own time.

Take surveys whenever you can, and get paid during a time when you normally earn zippo money!

In the dashboard, you’ll see a handful of surveys you can click on to get started.

These are just a handful of the surveys that were offered to me right after I signed into my account for the first time.

As you can see, the options will tell you how long they should take plus how many points you’ll get for your time.

Once you click on a survey, you’ll be asked to answer a few short qualifying questions. You won’t qualify for every survey, but most of the time, we found that you won’t be wasting time getting right into the paid surveys.

This is exactly what we meant above about putting people into categories, basically into focus groups for taking surveys.

These questions ensure you are the correct match for getting started, so you’re in the right focus groups for questionnaires.

A good thing to consider doing once you start taking surveys is completely filling out your profile.

As you can see, the more complete your profile is, the higher your chances of receiving higher-paying surveys.

Once you’ve completed surveys, your points start to gather quickly.

After finishing a paid survey, it was always nice to see confirmation that I earned the rewards and saw them go directly to my account.

Here is a close-up picture of the dashboard showing your total points.

Step #3: Redeem Your Points

Survey Junkie makes redeeming your money as simple as possible.

Once you earn 1,000 points (equal to $10), you simply request a payout. You can choose payouts via PayPal (real money is Kelan’s pick) or gift cards (Starbucks and Target for me, please!).

I went to redeem my points for a $10 Target gift card after about a month, which averaged to about 30 points a day- not too much work!

We also liked that Survey Junkie had a “history” screen. It’s another feature that makes Survey Junkie stand out as one of the best-paid sites around.

You never have to guess again which surveys you took, paid what amount, or if your running total is correct.

How Much Can I Make With Survey Junkie?

Being completely honest, the bottom line is that taking online paid surveys is not going to make you rich.

Survey sites won’t replace your main source of income, and you certainly will not be able to pay your mortgage with them.

BUT!

Survey Junkie is a way to earn extra income to pay off your debt, save for retirement, or help pay for a nice vacation.

Survey Junkie’s a great option for those looking to earn money on their own schedule.

You can take online surveys between 5 – 25 minutes most of the time, and payout anywhere between 10 – 100 points ($0.10 – $1).

On average, you can earn $2 – $5 per hour, which makes it one of the best ways to make money in your free time.

On some slow days, though, you may only get one online survey, which is a downer, but it’s a possibility on any other survey site too.

Think about it this way. The next time you watch a movie on Netflix, you can earn points upwards of $15 from the comfort of your couch! #Savvy

Plus, your points will never expire as long as you take at least one survey in a 12-month period.

More About Survey Junkie

When you are looking for ways to make more money, it’s always worth doing a little bit of investigation into the company to check that they are above board.

Survey Junkie is an online survey site where you can answer questions and get paid for doing so!

SJ was set up in 2013 and has a parent company called DISQO.

You can make money on SJ by completing their market research questions through surveys or focus groups on products and services.

Survey Junkie Pulse Program (SJ Pulse)

Survey Junkie now separates into 2 options: SJ Opinion (surveys above) and SJ Pulse.

You can also get paid for using the Survey Junkie Pulse app, which works similarly to MobileXpression if you’ve used that app.

If you opt-in to the pulse program, the app runs in the background and collects data as you go about your day.

When you search for information on your web browser or open your social media apps, SJ Pulse tracks how much and how often you use those things.

Some people have worried about their privacy with SJ Pulse, but it only observes what you use, not what you do with apps.

It doesn’t take information like passwords or credit card details. SJ Pulse only records data on what apps you use most and what activities you use your phone for.

SJ Pulse helps app companies get market research just like taking surveys does, but it’s almost like people watching- seeing what you do rather than asking you.

Using Sj Pulse, you’ll earn rewards more passively, without answering questions, so you can get your free PayPal cash or gift cards faster than ever.

And the program also sends exclusive surveys that are tailored to the activities you do on your phone, so you have more survey opportunities this way!

Can You Actually Earn Cash With Surveys?

So the real question is – can you actually earn cash with Survey Junkie?

The answer is yes! You can actually make money with SJ when you earn points from surveys.

If you’re planning on making your millions with it, however, you may want to consider doing something else instead.

According to its website, SJ has 3 million members; we personally love SJ and recommend you join Survey Junkie to make extra PayPal cash or gift cards.

You could also cash out for a gift card if you prefer, it’s still easy money in your pocket, and if you rack up plenty of points, you could get a great gift card for your next shopping spree!

Disadvantages of Survey Junkie

As we’ve mentioned, it’s important to remember that you aren’t going to make a ton of money from answering surveys on Survey Junkie.

As personal finance gurus, we have tons of side hustles you can try to earn thousands per month, but survey apps are a smaller payout in a short amount of time.

With the actual surveys on SJ, please note that you may be disqualified for some surveys if you don’t fit the demographic the survey is for.

Like I wouldn’t qualify for a survey geared for men interested in fishing and hunting.

You also need to live in a certain country in order to be able to sign up – the US, UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

How to Earn Money with Survey Junkie

To make moolah with Survey Junkie, you first need to create an account.

The reason for this is that you need the companies to know your demographics so that they can match you to surveys.

Once you’re all signed up, you complete surveys and earn points (which you will convert to money via PayPal or gift cards).

In order to make the most money from SJ, you should complete all of the surveys that they offer you.

My Experience With Survey Junkie

We have had nothing but a good experience with Survey Junkie and would highly recommend it.

We found that it was really easy to sign up to – only took a few minutes and you can create an account using your Facebook profile.

More surveys are available straight away and trust me when I say completing surveys doesn’t take very long.

You can spend 20 – 30 minutes a day completing surveys, and it won’t seem like much time at all!

We enjoy using SJ alongside some other survey sites that we use, and would always recommend joining them.

Why I Like Survey Junkie

You may not be a fan of survey sites, and that’s ok. But if you are looking for a way of making a little side money, Survey Junkie can be a great one to sign up for.

We like SJ because the monetary compensation for the surveys is really good, and frequent surveys are available.

It is offered in quite a few countries and has a really easy sign-up process.

We think it’s for everyone!

FAQ

Now that we’ve taken a look at Survey Junkie and how completing surveys works, it’s time to check out some frequently asked questions.

You can also check out their website for their own FAQs or contact support with more questions for the online market research community.

So far, we haven’t contacted customer support for anything, but other users seem to have gotten answers within 24-48 hours via email.

What Is Survey Junkie?

Survey Junkie is an online platform where you can answer surveys relating to your particular demographic to help out with some market research.

Companies want your feedback to improve and change the products and services for the future!

The reason why we like to recommend it as a way of making extra money is that it’s so easy to do, and doesn’t require any costs on your side.

If you are just getting started out with making more money, SJ is a good place to start to ease yourself in.

We do recommend checking out different ways of making money that can get you a better return for your time and effort.

Is Survey Junkie Worth It?

You may be wondering, “Is Survey Junkie worth it?”. To be honest, whether it’s worth it or not will be up to you.

We personally think it is worth trying Survey Junkie if you are looking for an easy way to make some extra cash.

It doesn’t replace your full-time job, but the extra money is always a win in our book. Plus, it’s something easy to do in your free time for cash rather than binge-watch TikTok videos.

If you’re going to complete surveys here, we recommend that you do them when you have some downtime, e.g., if you are waiting in a queue for example.

To benefit the most from Survey Junkie, you should try taking surveys whenever they’re offered.

When Is Survey Junkie Worthwhile?

Survey Junkie is most worthwhile when they are offering high-paying surveys. However, there’s no way of knowing when this will be.

But you can take one short online survey at a time to slowly work your way up to higher rewards. I think it’s worth using in your downtime.

We definitely recommend that you do it when you have a bit of spare time e.g. when you are watching TV or in a queue. This spare time is usually lazy downtime- but it’s time that you could be spending on something profitable.

Who Should Avoid Survey Junkie?

We like to think that anyone would benefit from Survey Junkie, but you shouldn’t use it if you want to make a lot of money quickly or quit your full-time job.

Survey sites are more of a slow burn, as the surveys are low-paying compared to your typical hourly wage, and they aren’t going to make you a ton of money.

Some people find answering questions annoying or a waste of time, so if you’re looking to play games or watch videos for easy money, we recommend:

Swagbucks
InboxDollars

Is Survey Junkie Legit?

Yes, it is 100% a legitimate site that you can use to earn points that can be used for free gift cards and PayPal cash.

We have tested it out with our own Survey Junkie account, and we also know people who are currently using it.

Survey Junkie actually has a B rating with the Better Business Bureau, so it’s pretty solid for the majority of people.

But the Better Business Bureau has noted that a knock-off site is trying to take advantage of people and get credit card details, so make sure you use our link to get the real thing.

As always, do your research to avoid scams! If any ask you for credit card info, look the other way and do not sign up.

Can You Really Make Money With Survey Junkie?

Yes, taking surveys on Survey Junkie is one way to make money pretty easily.

You can earn around $2 – $5 per hour on SJ, which is decent for a survey site!

Like we said before, it’s worth noting that there aren’t any survey companies to make you get rich or help you earn big bucks very quickly, but earning a few extra bucks in your free time isn’t bad.

The amount of money that you can make taking surveys will vary from person to person.

It will also depend on how many surveys you are offered, how much they are for, and how many you complete.

How Many Surveys Will I Get Per Month?

On average, Survey Junkie offers around 1 – 4 surveys per month to complete.

It can be based on your demographics – you may get more surveys through than other people.

Your number of surveys can also increase if you sign up for SJ Pulse.

How Long Does It Take To Redeem My Points?

There is a payout threshold that you have to reach before you will get paid by Survey Junkie. You need 1,000 points ($10) to cash out rewards from your account.

That means each point is worth 1 cent, so a 5 point survey is 5 cents for those 5 minutes of work.

This can happen quickly, depending on how active you are- in my first 2 weeks on the app, I had earned 500 points ($5). If you do a similar pace, earning 500 points every 2 weeks, then you’ll be able to cash out within a month.

However, earning that many points depends on your number of surveys each week. But it shouldn’t take you longer than 2-3 months to cash out if you do one every once in a while.

If you’re more active, you’re more likely to cash out and get your rewards quickly!

How Does Survey Junkie Pay You?

There are a few ways that you can get paid from Survey Junkie:

PayPal account deposits
Bank account transfers
Gift cards

There are so many different types of gift cards available after taking surveys, such as for Amazon, Starbucks, Target, and more of your favorites.

Bottom Line: Our Survey Junkie Verdict

Taking surveys is such a simple way to make money. It’s a great little side hustle to benefit from in your spare time.

And if you are looking for a legitimate high-paying survey site to join, Survey Junkie is an amazing option.

With a simple and easy-to-use interface, anyone can get started with them making extra money.

We have personally tested dozens of high-paying apps, and time and time again, Survey Junkie comes out as one of the best sites for taking online surveys.
