Find Your Niche

When it comes to making a new podcast, you will need to consider all of the other podcasts already out there. What makes yours stand out that will make people want to spend their time listening to it?

If you have chosen your genre already, spend some time listening to other similar podcasts and see what things are working for them and what things aren’t. Make sure that you take a bit of a different angle.

Finding your niche is important, especially in the beginning, because that is what will help you to build your listener base.

Protect Your Data

Cyber security and data protection may not have been on your radar before, but it is super important to stay on top of this stuff once you begin podcasting. You will be storing a lot of precious information on your hard drive that you wouldn’t want anyone to steal, so you are going to need to invest in some software to help you protect it.

Choose A Great Partner

Some podcasts only have one host, but the vast majority that do well have multiple (two or more) hosts. Choosing a great co-host or partner to help you with your podcast will greatly increase your likelihood of success, especially when you’re just starting out.

Rather than just quickly choosing your best friend or your spouse, think carefully about who you know that would not only make a good co-host on your podcast but will also put just as much work into it as you will. You’ll need someone you can depend on not just to appeal to your target audience but also to meet deadlines, help out with technical stuff, communicate with fans, run social media, etc.

If your podcast ends up becoming popular, you may need more than just yourself and one partner to run it. When the time comes to hire more employees, choose them wisely as well. Having a solid team beside you will make your podcast the best it can be.

Podcasting is not for the faint of heart and becoming successful at it is certainly not easy. However, it can also be a ton of fun! Hopefully these tips will help you as you’re starting your brand new podcast.
